How to Speed Up Your Internet For Little to Nothing

March 18, 2021

Whether it’s from the comfort of your own home or at your place of business, no one likes to deal with a slow internet connection. The speed on your internet can drastically change the outcome of transactions, customer service, and deadlines. Although this is extremely important, not everyone wants to dish out the big bucks to get the job done. Lucky for you, there are multiple ways to speed up your internet connection free of charge!

First Things First

The first suggestion is a simple, but common method for pretty much any device you are having difficulty with. Try turning your modem off for about a minute and then turn it on again. This may seem like something anyone can do and this is exactly why this method is underrated. There is an official name for it as well. It’s called power cycling, this can flush out a lot of problems that are affecting the speed of your internet connection. You can take it a step further and reconfigure your modem with a new password and this can refresh your connections. It’s highly recommended that you turn your modem off and on again every month, but if your issues are recurring once a day could be even better.

Try a new Router or Modem

One of the more common causes of a slow internet connection is having a bad modem. If your internet is constantly dropping, don’t blame it on your Internet Service Provider just yet. Check to see if your modem is best suited for the internet provider you are currently using. You can contact your ISP and they can give you a list of all the compatible modems. If you have chosen to rent a modem from your ISP, it will work best with the internet service you have purchased.

Check for Viruses

If you realize that unplugging doesn’t work then it may be time to check for viruses. A virus can live on your computer and take away all of your resources and slow down your speeds. A virus on your computer can have more signs than just slowing it down. You may have frequent pop windows, changes to your homepage, frequent crashes, and random emails sent out from your accounts. Softwares like Norton, McAfee, and TotalAV are really good software that you could use to ensure that your computer stays virus-free.

Get familiar with VPNs

Many people use a VPN service to get privacy, keep information secure, and bypass censorship. Although a VPN can come with really good qualities it can slow down your internet connection. A VPN works better when you choose one that has the bandwidth and the right infrastructure to support faster connections. One of the fastest VPNs on the market is IPVanish. This particular VPN allows you to easily protect the privacy of your daily internet activity and you can connect to the internet anywhere. IVPanish is also available on all mobile devices and desktops from Windows, Mac, iOs, and many more.
